Sustainable Subdivisions Framework SSF V2
Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV), Council Alliance for a Sustainable Built Environment (CASBE)
Completed
Strategic Planning + Policy
Mesh reviewed the first version of the SSF and prepared recommendations for improving it. This resulted in improving not just the framework itself, but completely reimagining it, with a focus on how sustainable outcomes can be implemented via existing statutory processes.
The project began with a high level review of the SSF v1 and the outcomes of its trial period. Early findings and initial ideas for the future form of the framework were then tested through consultation with the people most familiar with using the SSF: the Shared Services Officers, who administer the framework on behalf of groups of councils. The role and function of the SSF was further explored with other groups of stakeholders, including developers, council officers and agency employees. Ideas for the form and content of the SSF v2 developed in a highly collaborative manner, with Mesh providing planning expertise and LID providing sustainability expertise. The project concluded with a Recommendations Report containing recommendations on the role, structure, form and content of the SSF v2, with a draft SSF v2 was prepared as part of this report. This report is supported by an Implementation Report showing how the SSF v2 can be implemented into the planning scheme.
