Mesh was engaged with a clear mandate to envision a transit-oriented development that positively integrates necessary transport requirements and creates three different development futures for the precinct.
This project involved establishing an integrated retail centre with diverse housing options. Building upon the Precinct Opportunity Statement, the vision for the UDF aimed to create a vibrant village centre that encourages community gathering and public transport use, but most importantly reconnects with cultural heritage through biodiversity corridors and visual connections to cultural features. Inspired by the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation's suggestion to walk and sit on the site, Mesh envisioned purposeful open spaces, such as a central town park, as a gathering place–prioritising pedestrian movement, fostered healthier lifestyles, promoting carbon neutrality, and celebrated Wadawurrung living cultural.
